Courses at Loch na Fooey - 2010

Spring 4 Day Basketmaking Courses (Limit seven people) - All Levels
No. 1 - February 16th to 19th inclusive. (Tuesday to Friday inclusive) Accomodation available Monday to Saturday.
This course is suitable for all levels of experience.

No. 2 - March 2nd to 5th inclusive. (Tuesday to Friday inclusive) Accomodation available Monday to Saturday.
This course is suitable for all levels of experience.

No. 3 - March 23rd to 26th inclusive (Tuesday to Friday inclusive), Accomodation available Monday to Saturday.
This course is suitable for all levels of experience.

No. 4 - April 20th to 23rd inclusive (Tuesday to Friday inclusive), Accomodation available Monday to Saturday.
This course is for more experienced makers and is not suitable for beginners.

The aim of this course is to provide a thorough imparting of techniques in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. For Beginners the concentration will be on round work and each participant can expect to make 2, 3 or 4 baskets depending on size and have acquired enough skill to practice on their own. Those with previous experience can choose between round, oval, or square.
Cost of 4 Day Course: 320 Euro – Residential, 250 Euro - Non-residential

Autumn 4 Day Basketmaking Courses (Limit seven people) - All Levels
No. 1 - 12th to 15th October inclusive. (Accomodation available Monday to Saturday)
No. 2 - 16th to 19th November inclusive. (Accomodation available Monday to Saturday)
These courses are similar to the Spring 4 day courses and is suitable for all levels of experience.
Cost : 320 Euro - Residential (own room), 250 Euro - Non-residential

Autumn ADVANCED BASKETMAKING Course (Limit six people)
23rd to 26th November inclusive, (accommodation available Monday to Saturday)
A course geared to the needs of those wishing to make baskets for sale or to professional standards. Of course you do not have to be making baskets professionally but some basic experience is required for this course. The emphasis will be on quality basketmaking with the oportunity to learn a wide variety of techniques. I would like to learn from people in advance whether they have a particular area of interest e.g.,square work, fitching, handling heavy willow etc.
Cost: 330 Euro - Residential (own room), 260 Euro - Non-residential.

Winter Weekend Course (Limit seven people) - All Levels
4th and 5th of December (Accomodation available Friday to Monday)
Two days of functional basketmaking for makers with or without previous experience. Although an ideal introduction to basketmaking it is also suitable for makers with more experience but because it is only two days we will not be able to undertake more complex projects such as square work for example.
Cost: 170 Euro - Residential (own room), 135 Euro - Non-residential.

NOTES:
Materials are charged extra at cost
Materials for all courses are charged extra at cost. Beginners can expect to use up to 30 Euros worth of materials for four day course but advanced and creel makers may use up to 40 Euros worth of materials. Materials for weekend course up to 15 Euros.

HOURS: The course hours are 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

TOOLS: Bring bodkin, secateurs, knife etc., if you have them. Otherwise tools will be provided.

SORRY NO DOGS OR PETS ALLOWED.

BOOKING:
Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on receipt of the booking deposit. To enquire about bookings you may wish to phone (094) 9548241. The booking deposit is 100 Euro per person for three or four day courses and 50 Euro per person for the weekend course with the balance due at the start of the course. If you have to cancel give as much notice as possible. When cancellations are within 14 days of the start of the course, deposits will not usually be refunded. Otherwise if we can fill your place we will return your booking deposit.

Accommodation in “Waterfall Cottage" and “Hazel Cottage”
Accommodation is in these two stone-faced self-catering houses. “Waterfall Cottage” has five bedrooms, two toilets and two showers and has a 3 Star Bord Failte (I.T.B.) Rating. “Hazel Cottage” has three bedrooms, two toilets, two showers and one bath and has 4 star Rating. Since all courses are limited to a maximum of six, seven or eight people, it will not be necessary to share a room. Accommodation is beside the workshop, 3/4 mile from the local pub and 3 miles from the nearest shop. Accommodation is available from the afternoon of the day before the course until the morning of the day after the course finishes, for example from Friday afternoon until Monday morning for weekend Course.
If travelling by public transport we can meet Nees Connemara bus at Maam Cross. This bus leaves Galway from the Forster St. Bus Park (near rail/bus station) at 5.30 p.m. Monday – Saturday. If you want us to meet this bus it must be arraged with us in advance.

All courses include information on the planting and harvesting of willow with an optional visit to the willow beds.

Cost of course includes a substantial home cooked lunch each working day of the course. Breakfast and evening meals are not included.
